The Diary

Being Selfish. How Bad is it?
Eleanor Roosevelt said it best: "Do what you feel in your heart to be right-for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't."
Man lives for others. His thoughts influenced by fear. His actions governed by apprehensions. Would his actions be considered appropriate by his parents, friends, neighbors, people who don't know him and don't care to know either.
It's in satiating everybody that a Man does what he doesn't want to, becomes what he doesn’t want to. This brings mental pain which leads to fatigue. This fatigue creeps up over the life's course every day, a million times a day. And it's a taboo to feel fatigued, talk about it because we have been taught, CONDITIONED to think, that "THAT'S THE WAY LIFE IS". When we are taught to live for others sacrificing our own desires, we make ourselves unhappy in order to make others happy. And others are not happy because they are also doing the same thing. This leads to a society where everybody's trying to please others and everybody is unhappy.
Hypocrisy of living for others makes one hate self. Ironically, Man boasts about being benevolent as well.
"It doesn't matter if you like it or not. What matters is if other's think you are happy and successful or not".
"You have to be rich because everybody thinks being rich is cool."
"You have to marry else others won't find you socially acceptable."
Man doesn't live for himself. He lives for others.
Man works hard, not for himself, not for his own happiness, but so that others think he is happy.
The 'others' cancer is so deep-rooted that Man feels gratified at the thought of being perceived as successful and happy. Instead of working with his primary interests and liking to be happy, Man works towards this second-hand indirect happiness that comes from his approval in others' eyes.
I have a dream. I want to live in a world:
-where a man's actions are not governed by fear of his reputation in his neighbors eyes
-where knowledge is free
-where a man's actions are not governed by 'will others like me?' for this but by 'will I like this?' and 'will it lead to common good?'
-where a man doesn't prostitutes himself to other's opinion of him
-where one doesn't make others suffer because he suffered
-where Free will reigns
-where generosity is not a virtue but an inherent habit
-where man learns only to learn and not to be perceived as learnt
-where one doesn't enforce himself on others, not because it's unethical but there is just no need to do so
I do not wish for a utopic society. I wish for a society which is peacefully unstable and progressive.

Project Daswandh
People take Daswandh out, for 'God' as a matter of faith, to give something back to God and God's people and society. Basically it's showing gratitude to God that we believe in him, and appreciate the money and all the stuff that has been bestowed to us by almighty.
What most people would do is to give their funds to a religious entity. In a way, that makes sense as apparently, that's the closest you can get to God. So one would give money in a temple, Gurudwara, Mosque, Churches and so on..
The question I ask is.. Is there a better way to do this. Is there a way in which funds can be deployed more efficiently, more directly, aimed at betterment of society. Something which can directly help the poor and lesser abled, PEOPLE LOOKING FOR SMALL CAPITAL (Micro Loans), students looking to study.
Not everybody has access to people like these and hence it's just easier to give it to religious establishment.
Is it possible to setup an organisation helping people achieve the goal which can not only procure funds (Daswandh) but also use it the way it's intended to be done. I really don't see why not!!

God's Blessings in unusual ways
Following a very detailed discussion on the book 'The Secret' with my narinder chacha, I decided to focus my mind on one and only one thing I really want. For one week, I kept thinking what is one thing at this point of my life which will really make me happy. After a week or so, I decided that I want to focus on my new project TutorIndia.net . Brilliant!! No?
And then something magical happened. I got sacked the very next day from my job :o
Let's see where life takes me from here.
God bless India!! and me!! and everybody.

Does being bad takes you to hell?
Good deeds = passport to heaven, Bad deeds = hell?
naaaaaaaaa.. something's wrong here..
Jesus told god to forgive the ones who nailed him, weather they were forgiven or not is still a matter of debate.. so we will stay away from that. Instead we will focus on the stories we know are true.
Guru Gobind singh gave Moksha to Aurangzeb.
Lord Krishna absolved countless villians including Raja Kans
Lord Rama gave Moksha to Ravana
So, does it really matter if you are good or bad when jesus is going to die for your sins anyway and Lord Krishna is going to give you moksha no matter what you do.
Alternative theory:
If you are like really really bad, you will be cured of your sins in bulk and cured of them all.
Whatever the final theory be, being evil is the new sexy and smart as well.
Happy being evil!!

The Suicide
I haven't thought about doing suicide since I was 12 or so. Can't remember what exactly triggered those thoughts. I have believed all my life that suiciders are weak people, still do. But thoughts of doing suicide have been crossing my mind lately. But then I keep living, what good am I dead to anyone. Funny thing is, I still don't know what exactly is triggering these suicidal thoughts. May be I am just getting weak.

India Vs UK
Having visited some of the most scenically wonderful places in UK and Northern Ireland, I can now say with confidence that scenic beauty of Indian Hills up north is unmatched. By the size, slope, wildness, beauty and everything for which a person would go to a tourist place. Just to put things in context, consider Giants Causeway which is not Giant in any way. It's not giant in any fashion as I see it. In fact, everything's so very petite as compared gigantic hills of my great India that patriotism almost overwhelmed me. Love you India!!

Etymology of Women
Strange how philosophy flows in to mind at unsusual times. Running on a treadmill behind a girl scantily clad in her sexy workout outfit, a thought comes in to my mind. Why are women called 'women'. May be women give birth, therefore to represent men as a subset of women, women are called so. Theories kept churning in my mind while running and speeding as my eyes fixated (on the) behind that chic. and something very credible and interesting comes in to my mind and the folowing conclusion results:
The word women is primarily made of two sounds - Woo and Men
So Women Woo men and that's really all. Now further (absurd) sub-theories like, women came later than men can folow from this as well. I may write something about that in the future, keep an eye for it.
May God Bless Men and Woo-men.

In pursuit of Happiness
I am generally a happy man and like to be that way. But lately happiness seems to be eluding me. Hence, I ask this question from myself: What makes me happy, or for that matter, what can make anyone happy. Is there something that can make one eternally happy and content.
Jotting down a few of the memories which I can pull of my mind which made me happy- really happy and the happiness not altered by any other emotion like guilt or fear of future.......I remember this sort of pure happiness when....
1. I grew up enough to turn the lights off/on without having to stand on a chair.
2. I learnt to tie my shoe lace myself, while travelling in a train to Delhi-that was a real heightened sense of achievement I had.
3. First time my feet fit in to my mom's sleepers, and when it outgrew them eventually.
4. I got my first job at Rs 5000, followed by quick increments to 10000, 15000, 30000, 40000, 80000...
The only problem with all these little achievements was that they were short lived. But eventually boredom took over me and I want more of .... more of something.... something which gives me happiness.
Questions in my mind:
Is there anything which can give eternal happiness?
Is continuously achieving (something) is the source of happiness?
Is there anything that a person should do that doesn't make him/her happy?
